Why Statecraft
Governance is a craft. It is learned from those who have exercised it under pressure — in cabinet, in the boardroom, and in the systems that now hold a nation’s data. The Institute exists to turn that experience into teaching, and that teaching into trust.
Three domains
How the state is governed and how it governs: public institutions, accountability, service to citizens, public trust and regional cooperation, taught with a SADC lens by those who have held public office.
About the moduleHow organisations are directed and held to account: board effectiveness, ethics, risk and the stewardship of stakeholder trust, from those who have led them.
About the moduleHow data is made trustworthy and AI is used ethically and responsibly: built on the Institute’s KOPTUA framework, and grounded in POPIA and the regulatory realities of African markets.

Masterclasses are taught in person or online. The hybrid format lets senior participants join from the room or from their office.
Breakfast and dinner keynotes bring participants and experts to the same table for candid discussion.
Assignments and assessment are set and marked by the Institute, informed by the expert who taught the module.
